GetYourGuide vs. Viator: Which Should You List On?

Commission, payout terms, audience, and the honest answer most operators land on — plus the question that makes this comparison irrelevant for some.

By OperatorGateway

This is one of the most searched comparisons in the industry, and for good reason — most operators end up choosing between the two, or listing on both. Here's the honest breakdown.

Commission

Viator starts most operators at a flat 20% from day one. GetYourGuide starts new suppliers at 30%, with room to negotiate down toward 25% once you're running real volume (roughly 1,000 bookings a year is the point where that conversation becomes realistic — see our full breakdown of GetYourGuide's commission structure). On paper, Viator's base rate looks better for a brand-new supplier.

Payouts

GetYourGuide pays monthly by default (5th business day of the following month), with a bi-weekly option available at an extra 2% commission. Viator's payout terms are less flexible on cadence but comparably standard for the industry. Neither platform pays instantly — plan your cash flow around a multi-week lag either way.

Audience and geography

This is where the real difference shows up in practice, not on a pricing page: Viator leans North American, backed by TripAdvisor's traffic and brand recognition in the US and Canada. GetYourGuide leans European, with deeper penetration in Germany, the UK, and Southern Europe, and a reputation among many operators for account management that treats suppliers as partners rather than line items in a spreadsheet.

Onboarding

Viator's signup process is generally regarded as faster and less document-heavy. GetYourGuide's verification (ID, selfie check, insurance documentation, business status) is more thorough — which cuts both ways: slower to get live, but a marketplace that's more selective about who's on it.

So which one wins?

For most operators with the choice available to them, the honest answer is: both, if you can manage the operational overhead of two calendars and two sets of guest communications. If you have to pick one, the deciding factor is usually your customer base's geography, not the commission percentage — a few points of commission matter less than being visible to the travelers who are actually searching for your destination.

The question that makes this comparison irrelevant

All of the above assumes you can apply to GetYourGuide directly. If you're based in Türkiye, Egypt, Morocco, or one of seven other countries, GetYourGuide's own signup form blocks you before any of this matters — see which countries GetYourGuide currently restricts. (Viator's country eligibility policy is separate and outside what we cover here — check Viator's own supplier requirements directly.)

If GetYourGuide is the platform you want and your country is one of the restricted ones, get in touch — setting up a working account in the operator's own name, for exactly this situation, is what OperatorGateway does.
